EPC is a sixteen-hour, two-day program that consists of lectures, interactive skills stations, small group critical thinking discussions, and patient simulations.  Topics covered include: pathophysiology of the most common critical pediatric emergency issues, application of the Pediatric Assessment Triangle, a tool to help practitioners rapidly and accurately assess pediatric patients, the importance of family-centered care, understanding, and communicating with children, airway management, breathing, and oxygenation, cardiac emergencies, recognizing child abuse and neglect, hypo-perfusion and shock, newborn resuscitation, pediatric trauma, and treating children with special needs.

Students who successfully complete the EPC course will receive a certificate of completion that is valid for four years.
